Few tips about how to get your business on top
Make time to review your goals.
You need to make time regularly to work on your business, not just in it. Set aside time, whether it is 15min a day, an hour a week or a couple hours every few months, where you won’t be interrupted and have time to focus.
Clearly define what success is to you
Success means different things to different people.
Clearly defint what success means in your culture, your family life and in business and what will it mean to you if you reach success?
Define your goals.
Write everything down, there are never any wrong ideas or answers when it comes to goal setting.
Also list what resources you need to make your goals a reality.
Once you’ve made a list – start sorting them into a time frame and priority.
This list should become a working document – as goals change all the time. What was once important to achieve last month, may not be now, or you may have achieved what you set out to do and now need to set new goals.
Make a 'To Do' lists.
Again – write everything down and keep it visual! Make time everyday to review what you have to do. We’ve always found the best time to do this is first thing in the morning or at the end of the day so you can prepare for the day ahead.
Did you know you are 50% more likely to achieve things if you write them down to visually see?
Find Motivation.
Why do you do what you do? This is the most important question.
If you’re not motivated, your already fighting an uphill battle.
Take time to identify what made you passionate at the start of your business journey.
Surround yourself with knowledge, people and do things to keep you motivated or get you back on track.
If passion is gone – get it back. If you can’t be passionate about what you do – then go find something else that does!
Understand reasons for failure
The most common reasons for failure…
-
Poorly defined goals
-
Poor management skills – time, people, financial understanding.
-
Negative influences
-
Unforeseen circumstances
The important thing to identify and recognise is if you need help in any of these areas – then do something about it! Don’t be afraid to seek out and ask for the right kind of help or surround yourself with people who have the knowledge, skills and positive to help you get there.
These can be family, friends, employees, work or business colleagues or mentors. Surround yourself with those people who will lift you up and help you get to where you want to go.
Learn from experience.
Reflect on what worked and how you achieved success – identify the things you did that impacted on you achieving where you wanted to go.
But also – learn from your mistakes. Knowledge is power and if reflect our your mistakes, identify where you went wrong, then you’ll learn what not to do again.
‘One thing is certain in business. You and everyone around you will make mistakes’ Sir Richard Branson
Reward yourself.
Take time to pat yourself on the back when you’ve achieved your milestones or goals. It is worth celebrating and will help keep you motivated.
This doesn’t mean splashing out – but treat yourself to a coffee or share a drink with a friend. Be proud of what you’ve achieved this is very important, especially as an owner operator – as who else is going to reward you!
